JEEP ROCKET STOVE

Joint Energy and Environment Projects (JEEP) has developed a new rocket mud firewood saving stove. The stove has been developed basing on JEEP’s long experience with the efficiency and adoption of the mud stoves in Uganda. The developed stove is a modification and combinations of the 2 pot hole rocket stove and the shielded rocket mud stove. The stove cooks faster, easy to adopt and emits less smoke. JEEP has finalized testing of the stove and a construction manual has been put in place.

Solar installations in Arua

JEEP has finalising installation in another 5 school with support from the Nordic Folkecenter for renewable energy. The 5 beneficiary schools were all selected from Arua district. The 4 selected schools were off grid except one (Okollo SS). Okollo SS was getting power from the grid ( Thermol generator) but was un reliable as a result of load shedding in Arua /power rationing. Special consideration was given to Ajia girls secondary school, the school was opened in 2011 as an initiative to encourage girls in that area to go to school since most of the girls were not attending school.

Village Health Team Volunteers (VHTs) Training on Indoor Air Pollution

Joint Energy And Environment Projects (JEEP) in partnership with Program for Appropriate Technologies in Health (PATH) conducted Village Health Team Volunteers (VHTs) Training A total of seventy nine (79) VHTs in Kira Town Council and Ssabagabo Makindye Sub County attended the training. JEEP Bids Farewell to Markus

Markus Espeter has completed his volunteering program at JEEP. Markus joined JEEP under the Artefact Solivol program and has worked with JEEP for a year. During his stay, Markus has helped re build the JEEP website, engaged in marketing JEEP, trained staff in computer skills among others. The C.E.O thanked Markus for all he has done for JEEP and urged him to keep the spirit. Markus will be replaced by 2 new volunteers Miriam Cartheret and Martin Sturm.

Students from Copanhagen visit JEEP FC

Public health students from the University of Copenhagen from Denmark visited JEEP folkecenter on 16th August 2012.The students were exposed to the different technologies that JEEP is promoting and how they impact on people’s health. During the visit, the students had a guided tour around the center, during this session students questions were concerning the technologies and Uganda in general were addressed. Cleaner Cookstoves in Uganda

In his home area Mukono, our technician Confrio Nsubuga faces the same problems as we do all over the country of Uganda: Getting individuals to change their behaviour for the good of the planet can be a hard sell, for instance when its about the good old practices of cooking. Ari Daniel Shapiro, an American blogger from Nova, one of the highest rated science series, told Confri’s story including an interview with our technician, who is trying his own tactics to persuade women to change the way they cook combined with the cooking stove techniques JEEP is trying to teach people since 30 years.
