Solar Installations in Mbale,Sironko and Bududa Schools

Joint Energy and Environment Projects (JEEP) has finalised the installation of solar systems for lighting and phone charging in 3 selected schools in Mbale, Sironko and Bududa. The installations were funded by Senior Without Borders in Denmark Bukalasi C.O.U. Secondary School Buginyanya Comprehesive SS- Sironko District Bufumbo Secondary School- Mbale District Basic awareness about the solar systems was done by JEEP. The administrations of the schools were very great full and pledged to maintain the system

JEEP VISITS THE RWEZURURU PALACE

JEEP paid a visit to the Royal palace of the Rwenzururu kingdom. The meeting was aimed at seeking the kingdom support on the dissemination of improved cook stoves in Kasese as well as the Access to Clean energy initiative. The meeting was attended by teams from JEEP, WWF and the Prime minister’s office from the Obusinga Bwa Rwezururu The JEEP team led by the CEO gave an overview of the JEEP activities and the energy saving stove training in Kasese.

IMPROVED COOK STOVES TRAINING IN KASESE

Joint Energy and Environment Projects (JEEP) has entered into a partnership with WWF Uganda to train trainers (TOT) in Kasese district. The training was aimed at equipping the participants with knowledge and skills on the construction of energy saving cook stoves. JEEP trained over 900 TOTs in the 10 subcounties of Kasese. These include Maliba, Bugoye, Rukooki, Mahango, Kalusandara, Bwera, Kilembe, Ihandiro, Kyondo and Kasese Municipality. JEEP worked hand in hand with community organisations such as Mubuku vanilla farmers, New Eden, Caritas, Kiima foods, Uganda police, WWF water users, HOS and was greatly support by the Obusinga bwa Rwenzuruli (OBR)

JEEP ROCKET STOVE

Joint Energy and Environment Projects (JEEP) has developed a new rocket mud firewood saving stove. The stove has been developed basing on JEEP’s long experience with the efficiency and adoption of the mud stoves in Uganda. The developed stove is a modification and combinations of the 2 pot hole rocket stove and the shielded rocket mud stove. The stove cooks faster, easy to adopt and emits less smoke. JEEP has finalized testing of the stove and a construction manual has been put in place.

Solar installations in Arua

JEEP has finalising installation in another 5 school with support from the Nordic Folkecenter for renewable energy. The 5 beneficiary schools were all selected from Arua district. The 4 selected schools were off grid except one (Okollo SS). Okollo SS was getting power from the grid ( Thermol generator) but was un reliable as a result of load shedding in Arua /power rationing. Special consideration was given to Ajia girls secondary school, the school was opened in 2011 as an initiative to encourage girls in that area to go to school since most of the girls were not attending school.

Village Health Team Volunteers (VHTs) Training on Indoor Air Pollution

Joint Energy And Environment Projects (JEEP) in partnership with Program for Appropriate Technologies in Health (PATH) conducted Village Health Team Volunteers (VHTs) Training A total of seventy nine (79) VHTs in Kira Town Council and Ssabagabo Makindye Sub County attended the training.
