CAISL

At the start of May, JEEP conducted yet another installation of energy-efficient LED lighting in schools. Thanks to the feedback from the earlier school, this time JEEP applied a hybrid aproach, installing one ordinary lightbulb per room. While this is of course a major increase in energy use, the overall system is still far more efficient than conventional lighting systems. The school expressed their warmest thanks and the boarding school children will be happy to learn that they are now able to learn and read at night in preparation of exams.

RED Financial Literacy Trainings

As project RED seeks to increase business activity in green technologies in order to stop environmental degradation and financial skills are important in managing pathways to obtain said technologies, JEEP conducted financial literacy trainings in 11 communities in Adjumani. The trainings mainly adressed the topics of saving and investing, as many people don’t save and then take out loans to consume instead to invest. The training taught them means and ways to achieve financial freedom through starting a business and equipped them with tips to save, like only leaving the house with the amount of money you want to spend.

RED Energy Hub

The last week of May saw another Energy Hub, where JEEP exhibits its sustainable energy solutions and products from its enterprise department. This is not only an opportunity to disseminate solutions, but also showcase and advocate for them. People are always surprised when they see the Fireless Cooking Basket in action and are eager to buy stoves. The advocacy may also lead to beneficiaries being inspired to start their own business with seedfunding from JEEP, another aspect of the RED project. In addition, the Energy Hub also accomodated a new product: Artemisia seeds. Artemisia is a herbal remedy against malaria and community members, including the local leader, were eager to take part in a workshop.
