Monthly Newsletter February 2024
JEEP strives to stop environmental destruction and promote efficient management of natural resources. The newsletter gives a monthly overview of our activities towards this mission. It provides small updates about project activities and gives insights about the events at our Folkecenter itself in the hope that the curious reader finds information worth knowing.
CAISL
JEEP, as part of the Climate Action for Improved and Sustainable Livelihoods project, conducted a Cleanup Day in Akworo sub-county. The participants showed eager support, also due to the actions endorsement of local leaders. The cleaning concentrated on public places and followed extensive advocacy for conserving the environment. The turnup was high, even though it was a market day. JEEP, as well as citizens are happy with the results and looking forward to make Nebbi a JEEP model district for environmental conservation.
RED
Although project RED is coming to an end this year, JEEP is still busy distributing energy sustainable solutions. The energy hubs conducted from the 5th to 7th also included workshops on the production of fireless cooking baskets, which was greatly appreciated as well. Despite the heat, residents of informal settlements and hosting communities were still keen to learn more about saving energy and conserving the environment.
JGAC
Again reporting from Nebbi, the local Junior Green Ambassadors Club came together with the help of JEEP to engage in a sustainable livelihood and empowerement activity, where members created little baskets for domestic use. Participants expressed their thankfullness for the opportunity JEEP gave them to host the activity. This is already a sign of Nebbi citizens taking their livelihoods in their own hands, and striving farther and farther towards it becomming a JEEP model district.
D-HIP
Lastly, the “Distribution of Health Improving Plants” is also ramping up. After growing for 3 months already, the Artemisia plants will soon be ready for distribution. Las month, they were also planted into the field by skilled gardening personell of JEEP. This herbal remedy against malaria wont only lead to a new workshop in JEEPs portfolio, but will finally also be a valuable addition to JEEPs enterprise department. This addition will include the raw tea, as well as creme which helps against skin diseases.
