About JEEP

Joint Energy and Environment Projects (JEEP) is an indigenous registered Non-Governmental Organization in line with the requirements of the NGO Act 2016, located in Kyanja off Gayaza Road, 7 Miles from Kampala city center in Uganda.

The Organization was founded in 1983 and it has been working directly with local community groups, individuals, institutions and other organizations to stop environmental destruction and promote efficient management of natural resources as its fundamental mission and a core vision for having a Ugandan society with a ‘’safe environment for a sure future’’. JEEP has created environmental awareness at all levels of societies; influencing policies and integrating environmental considerations in all aspects of social, economic and cultural development through ensuring that households use energy efficient technologies, agro-forestry and sustainable agriculture; foster and bring concrete impacts in terms of food and fuel - wood security, improved nutrition, increased incomes and raised standards of living.

Joint Energy and Environment Projects (JEEP) is currently seeking applications from eligible applicants for the post of Project Extension Officer who will be based in Nebbi district, West Nile Uganda.

Job Summary

Project Extension Officer will oversee and ensure that all activities related to the project are implemented in a timely and efficient manner according to the agreed JEEP and Donor Guidelines and provide leadership and coordination for all aspects related to project activities in Nebbi.

Key duties and responsibilities

  • Implement all planned project activities with expertise and in a manner that leads to attainment of the project goals and outcomes.
  • Keep records of all project activities including project assets under custody/use, beneficiary list, partner list, assets or inputs provided, activity and monitoring reports etc.
  • Supervises contact persons and beneficiaries to implement project activities.
  • Regularly develop and share monthly activity plans with the Energy, Environment officer.
  • Ensure 100% implementation of the planned project activities on a monthly basis and that budgets are not under and overspent.
  • Support in collaboration and tabulation on a regular basis field data on project activities carried out and undertake impact assessment using participatory approaches for all beneficiaries to determine the relevance and impact of the assistance.
  • Regular visit to all beneficiary sites where project activities are undertaken, checks on progress, offers support as directed by the project manager in line with the project objectives.
  • Take lead in the development of JEEP environment and energy interventions scope and ensuring linkages with other stakeholders in Nebbi
  • Lead in identifying and facilitating environment and energy and climate change partner engagements including with development partners, civil society, government and private sector alongside fostering necessary rapport with other relevant stakeholders to ensure effective collaboration project implementation in Nebbi district.
  • Be responsible for the planning and implementation of relevant trainings as well as follow-up and mentoring of training participants in close cooperation with other partners.
  • Facilitate strategic environment and energy processes and promote the sharing of lessons and experiences with partners.
  • Participate in assessments to identify gaps and opportunities to strengthen and expand Environment interventions in Nebbi.
  • In consultation with Environment and Energy manager, and in collaboration with JEEP M&E officer, prepare field monitoring plans; design tools for data collection and participate in monitoring of project activities.
  • Ensure an updated database is kept and/submitted to the M&E unit.
  • Perform any other duty as assigned by management.

Qualification and experience

This position requires a self-driven individual with work experience in a humanitarian setting. The Project Extension Officer must. Hold a Bachelor of Science in Renewable Energy, Environmental Science, Natural Resources, agriculture, forestry or a degree in a related field with commensurate work experience.

  • Have a minimum of three years’ experience in related work
  • Technical knowledge and experience in livelihood work are a strong added advantage
  • Possess excellent interpersonal, communication, public speaking, and strategic planning skills required.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, tasks efficiently.
  • She/he should have a passion for environment conservation.
  • Should be computer-literate with knowledge in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Possess a valid riding permit
  • Experience working with women and children an asset
  • Ability to speak Alur and English

Other important considerations

Applicants between 26 – 40 years are mainly requested to apply.

Timeline

Contract length for the Youth mobiliser is up to 31st December 2024. JEEP offers a salary package (salary, medical insurance, and NSSF) in accordance to experience and JEEP HR Manual.
