Joint Energy and Environment Projects partnered with the  Food and Agriculture Organisation of United Nations (FAO) through Letter of Agreement number 035/2015 to support implementing partners in central cattle corridor to demonstrate and scale up climate change adaptation practices for environmental management under the Global Climate Change Alliance project (GCCA).

JEEP is to undertake the following activities:

• Conduct ToTs for 672 FFS members on Energy Saving Stoves
• Establish 4 tree nurseries in the districts of Mubende, Sembabule and Nakaseke
• Support members from 36 FFS groups (or 720 households) to each plant at least 34 tree seedlings comprising agro-forestry and fruit trees at household level on crop land
• Developing entrepreneurial skills among FFS to promote renewable energy sources in the 6 districts.
• Review, simplify and contextualise the existing module on environmental management for FFS community based facilitators

GCCA PROJECT COURTESY VISIT TO IMPLEMENTATION PARTNERS

JEEP joins FAO Uganda in the Global Climate Change Alliance Project (GCCA). FAO Uganda has contracted JEEP to join the team of implementers to help with training people in the cattle corridor. Like in all districts of Uganda, climate change impacts are realised. It’s worse in the cattle corridor thus raising a very quick and serious action to avoid further environment damages. JEEP is therefore entrusted to help with energy stoves to reduce on tree/shrub clearing, nursery establishment and management, to enable further tree planting also kick out kerosene and switch to the sun. A total of 336 Farmer Field schools will be trained by JEEP, JEEP welcomes Agencies fighting Climate Change “Together we can”

Planning meetings with FAO on Global Climate Change Alliance (GCCA)

JEEP held the planning meetings in the 6 districts of the cattle corridor ie Luwero, Nakasongola, Nakaseke, Sembabule, Kiboga and Mubenda district.  JEEP staff informed the Global Climate Change Alliance (GCCA) stake holders about the project activities they were going to carry out under the GCCA project in these 6 districts which includes: training of TOTs in stove construction, distribution of agro forestry and fruit tree seedlings to FFS households, training of entrepreneurs in renewable energy technologies and sensitization of communities about renewable energy sources.

The GCCA stakeholders were called upon by JEEP staff to cooperate and work together during the project implementation, JEEP requested for stakeholders’ support to mobilize the beneficiaries for trainings and also identify appropriate training venues and help with follow-up activities.

JEEP trained Farmer Field School members from Kiboga, Nakasongola, Luwero and Nakaseke districts in energy saving stoves

On 27th up to 30th JEEP team travelled to Kiboga,Nakasongola, Luwero and Nakaseke districts to train 168 Farmer Field Schools (FFS) in the energy saving stoves. Each district the training was for 2 days. Each FFs was supposed to be represented by 2 participates in the trainings. The Farmer Field Schools (FFs) were taught two types of energy saying stove ie the rocket lorena and the shielded stove.

JEEP trained FAO Farmer Field School members from Sembabule and Mubende districts in energy saving stoves

On 9th up to 10th November JEEP staff trained 142 Farmer Field Schools (FFS) in Sembabule and Mubende district. Each Field school was represented by 2 participates. Participants were trained in Rocket lorena stove and shielded stoves. Each district a 2 day training, one day for theory and demonstration, second day for practical. In sembabule district 191 participants were trained 105 were female and 86 male. In Mubende district 93 participants were trained 54 were female and 39 male.
