JEEP's Skills Development for Climate Action(SDCA) Trains Staff and Community Members on Climate-Saving Charcoal Stoves
As part of its mission to promote sustainable living and climate-conscious practices, JEEP, through its Skills Development for Climate Action project, recently conducted a hands-on training on climate-friendly charcoal stoves. This initiative targeted both JEEP staff and members of the public, equipping them with practical skills to reduce environmental impact while meeting everyday energy needs.
The training focused on a unique type of charcoal stove designed to significantly reduce charcoal consumption. These stoves are crafted using a specific soil layer known as the C horizon, which enhances the stove's efficiency and durability. By optimizing fuel usage, the stoves not only save households money but also help protect the environment by lowering carbon emissions and conserving natural resources.
Partcipants learned the entire process from mixing the C horizon soil to forming and firing the stoves-ensuring they leave with both the knowledge and skills to replicate the innovation at home of in their communities. The practical session was completed by discussions on climate literacy emphasizing how small, local actions can contribute to global climate solutions
Our goal through SDCA is to create practical, scalable solutions that empower communities while protecting the planet. These charcoal stoves are a perfect example of innovation that addresses both energy needs and climate conservation,"- said a JEEP facilitator during the training
Through this initiative, JEEP continues to advance its mission of equipping people with climate-smart skills, turning knowledge into action, and fostering sustainable habits that can make a lasting difference for Uganda and the world.
