JEEP & YES Global Initiative celebrate World Environment day with Students in Kasangati
The World Environment Day is a moment when people across the globe, individual, organizations, and entire nations come together to take action for the planet. For over 43 years, the Joint Energy and Environment Projects (JEEP) has proudly stood at the forefront of environmental conservation in Uganda, and this year was no exception.
In partnership with YES Global Initiative, JEEP marked the day in style by bringing knowledge, innovation, and hope to the next generation of environmental stewards the pupils of Kasangati Muslim Primary School.
The celebration went far beyond speeches and theory. It was a hands-on experience where students were practically trained in creative waste management innovations. Together with the JEEP and YES Global team, they learned how to:
- Create bottle dustbins from used plastic bottles, turning waste into useful storage for litter.
- Design hanging gardens, showcasing how limited spaces can be transformed into food and greenery hubs
- Weave straw mats, blending traditional skills with sustainable living practices
- Build tire tables, giving discarded vehicle tires a second life as durable classroom and household furniture.
Beyond practical skills, students were also introduced to climate literacy-an essential foundation for understanding how human activity impacts the environment and what each person can do to protect it.
To ensure this learning goes beyond a single day, an Environmental Students' Club was launched at the school. The club will serve as a platform for continuous learning, peer-to-peer awareness, and the nurturing olf eco-champions among the young learners
When we equip children with practical environmental skills, we dont just teach them we empower them to be the change-makers in their schools, families, and communities.- Said a JEEP facilitator during the event
Through such initiatives, JEEP continues to invest in building a genration that values sustainability, innovation, and action-paving the way for a greener, cleaner Uganda and beyond
