Monthly Newsletter March 2024
JEEP strives to stop environmental destruction and promote efficient management of natural resources. The newsletter gives a monthly overview of our activities towards this mission. It provides small updates about project activities and gives insights about the events at our Folkecenter itself in the hope that the curious reader finds information worth knowing.
CAISL: Energy Hub
JEEPs Nebbi Field Team conducted a succesful Energy-Hub in Erussi sub-county, Nebbi district. The Energy Hub was, like in other places, well received. People were curious and JEEP was able to teach them a lot about energy-saving technologies. Participants were eager to sign up for fireless cooking basket trainings, as JEEP demonstrated to them first hand how they work by serving delicious firelessly cooked meat and rice. Special demand also existed for Rocket-Lorena stoves, because they are easily produced. JEEP is looking forward to indirectly subsidize people in the region through energy-efficient technologies, so that they shall save money to become more entepreneurial.
CAISL: Stove Follow-Up
JEEP also conducted a short follow-up trip to see how stoves which were made in the past were holding up. Everyone was pleased that the past stove-interventions were succesful.
RED: Village Savings and Loan Association
JEEP conducted eight trainings in Adjumani district to screen and support Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs). In the spirit of project RED’s fair approach, the trainings were balanced between refugee and hosting communities. Overall, 114 people were reached. The trainings were tailored for the special needs of the groups. Some improved on bookkeeping, some discussed on a goal and afterwards pledged a saving increase and some created assets. Further, structural innovations were discussed like a socia fund, monthly meetings and regular updates.
RED: Youth Innovation Lab
The Youth Innovation Lab (YIL) in Adjumani received training from the Zero Waste Amazing Products Foundation (ZWAP). The training was facilitated by JEEP. In the workshop, the whole range of innovating, producing and marketing was discussed. While everyone was eager to learn, some members lacked self-confidence, especially in marketing. The workshop helped overcome that. Another problem is the high mobility of members. The products introduced by ZWAP may serve to overcome the marketing challenges as other community members are interested how to turn waste into amazing products and the products are unique in the region so far.
