Environmental Awareness Project (EAP)

The project is implemented as a cooperation between Seniors without Borders (SwB), Nordic Folkcentre for Renewable Energy and in Uganda Joint Environment and Energy Project (JEEP) and Safe Neighbourhood Foundation (SNF). SwB is project leader and responsible to CISU. The project is focusing on five environmental challenges in the Eastern Uganda, Mt. Elgon, Budaka and Moroto. Water Management or rather Mismanagement, Energy Crisis, Deforestation, Waste and Pressure on land/ Food Safety.

Agriculture, Nutrition and Environment Conservation

JEEP met these objectives: 104 TOTs trained 26 gardens and tree nurseries for schools 5000 trees planted 520 woodstoves built 4 institutional stoves built The TOT training was split into theory and practical session. Theory includes environment development, energy crisis, tree planting, soil and water conservation, natural pest control and extension networking. The practical lessons taught construction of energy-saving stoves, rapid multiplication techniques for field establishment and nursery establishment and management.

Environmental Conservation 7 Year Project

[caption id=“attachment_410” align=“alignright” width=“150” caption=“Training for building stoves”] [/caption] In 1999, JEEP signed a seven year contract with PLAN International to implement the Environmental Conservation Project (ECP) in the Luwero District (different parishes each year) of Central Uganda. JEEP has implemented a five step program: Create awareness of environment and climate through seminars. Host Training of Trainers (TOT) camps to teach stove construction, advanced agriculture, community extension, and other topics. Demonstration plots are established in the local parishes by EEP staff, TOTs and local farmers.

Prevention of Gender based violence

It is against this background that Joint Energy and Environment projects partnered with FAO Uganda (LOA 056/10) under a project titled Gender based violence prevention, social economic response and coordination in North Uganda (OSRO/UGA/004/UNJ) to train participants in construction of energy saving stoves and tree planting in Usuk and Toroma sub counties of Katakwi District.
